Father Stabbed Defending Daughter from Suspected Knife Attack in Westminster

This past weekend, a terrifying incident occurred in Westminster when a father was wounded while protecting his little daughter from what appeared to be a knife attack by a homeless woman. According to NBC Los Angeles, the event happened in the courtyard of the Westminster Civic Center on Sunday at approximately 4:45 p.m. According to reports, the suspect, Victoria Vu, 43, tossed a bottle at the two before rushing at them with what authorities believe to be a switchblade.

“The father, like any parent would do, intervened and took multiple stab wounds protecting his 3-year-old daughter,” Westminster Police Department deputy chief Cameron Knauerhaze told NBC Los Angeles, referring to the young girl’s father’s quick action and the actions of an unnamed Good Samaritan who helped stop the attack. The person who bravely intervened had already fled the scene before authorities arrived, but detectives are looking through CCTV footage to find out who it was.

According to a different story on CBS News Los Angeles, paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority treated the man after Westminster Police Department responding officers saw him bleeding from many stab wounds while providing help. Vu has been arrested by the police, who have also found the knife that was allegedly used during the assault.

There is still little information available about what led to this disturbing incident; investigators are trying to determine what caused such violence in what appears to have been an unprovoked attack, according to a statement from the Westminster Police Department. Vu is currently being charged with attempted murder, child endangerment, and switchblade possession. Authorities are asking anyone with information, particularly the unidentified good Samaritan, to get in touch with WPD investigators at (714) 548-3724 as the community struggles with the aftermath of this tragedy, according to FOX LA.
