A 33-year-old Gainesville man was killed in a motorcycle crash early Wednesday morning on State Road 24, near the intersection with Southwest 48th Drive.

The collision occurred just before 7 a.m. on July 23. According to authorities, a black sedan driven by a 72-year-old Gainesville man was traveling eastbound and attempted to turn left into a business entrance at Southwest 48th Drive, near the Plaza Health and Rehab Center. Meanwhile, the motorcyclist was heading west on State Road 24. The motorcycle struck the right front of the sedan during the turn.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene and pronounced the motorcyclist dead. The driver of the sedan suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

As a result of the crash, westbound traffic on Archer Road was diverted for several hours, while eastbound lanes remained open. The names of those involved have not been released. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
