Firefighters Quell Blaze at Vacant Pico-Union Home in Los Angeles; No Injuries Reported

On Tuesday, a three-story house in Los Angeles’ Pico-Union neighborhood caught fire, causing alarm as smoke and flames poured from the abandoned structure. According to NBC Los Angeles, when the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived on the scene of the emergency call at the 1200 block of S. Menlo Avenue, they observed a large fire raging from the upper levels of the building.

With another structure perhaps in the line of the flames, the incident, which attracted over forty-four firefighters to the scene, posed a threat of spreading. Nevertheless, there were no reports of any more harm to nearby structures. The situation was brought under control thanks to the efforts of the fire crews, who quickly evaluated and attacked the fire, focusing mostly on the second and third levels. The craftsman-style house was empty, as per the LAFD’s alert, which made the firefighters’ job easier.

To put out the fire, crews launched a tactical onslaught that included a transitional attack that began outside the building and proceeded inside. This calculated tactic paid off; according to a follow-up notice from the LAFD, officials reported that the flaming inferno had been put out in around 40 minutes.

Investigations are still on to determine the cause of the fire, which has left its origin uncertain. Notwithstanding the possible danger posed by the incident’s circumstances, no injuries were reported. The official word from the LAFD was “no exposures damaged,” which was a relief to the community and emergency responders alike. However, after the fire was contained, LAFD crews continued to secure the area and carry out overhaul operations to avoid any potential flare-ups.
