First-Grade Student Dies After Losing Control of Dragster in Florida Race; Family and Community Grieving

ORLANDO, Fla. (DDN) – A seven-year-old girl died while pursuing her ambition of driving a junior dragster.

According to an Orange County Fire Rescue statement, the unfortunate occurrence occurred at Orlando Speed World, where they reacted to 911 warnings of the youngster being engaged in a car accident at roughly 11:20 a.m. on Feb. 2.

“A pediatric patient was transported as a trauma alert to Arnold Palmer Hospital and another patient was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, ALS (Advanced Life Support),” according to the release. “A third patient was also transported to Advent Health East with non-life-threatening injuries.”

The Florida Highway Patrol also told that Rodriguez lost control of her Junior Dragster while drag racing, causing it to collide with a safety guide employee before hitting a concrete wall.

According to Fox 35, the safety guide employee, a 34-year-old male from Orlando, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The 7-year-old female was sent to Arnold Palmer Hospital. On February 4, 2025, she was proclaimed dead.

The employee, a male from Orlando, was brought to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-critical injuries.

Rodriguez was also sent to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where she eventually died. According to The Independent, young dragsters may achieve speeds of up to 85 mph.

Orlando Speed World issued a heartfelt statement on Facebook to express their sorrow.

“We are deeply heartbroken by the tragic incident that took place at OSW on Sunday,” they wrote following Rodriguez’s death. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Elienisse’s family, and all those affected, including our racing community.”

“Motorsports is built on passion, but moments like these remind us of the risks that come with what we love,” they added.

“While injuries can heal, the pain of loss is immeasurable,” the statement continued. “We stand together in support, mourning, and prayer during this difficult time. We extend our deepest condolences to those grieving and will continue to uplift them in our thoughts.”

Rodriguez was a first-grader at Eastland Christian School.

The school said in a statement, “We shall keep Elienisse’s memory near to our hearts. Thank you for your compassion and support as we join together to grieve her passing and recall the joy she brought to all of us.”
