Flooding and Landslide Impact Oregon’s Cape Arago Area, Parks Closed for Prolonged Period

DDN – Due to flooding and a landslide that occurred close to Coos Bay, three state parks in Oregon were closed on Friday, according to the announcement made by the officials.

Cape Arago and Shore Acres state parks were forced to close their doors as a result of the landslide, which caused a piece of the Cape Arago Highway to be undercut. According to the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, the Sundown Bay State Park was shut down because of the flooding that occurred there.

It was around eight in the morning when the campground was evacuated, and it may be closed until the following week.

If flooding persists, the day-use area at Sunset Bay, which is now open, may be closed. It has been announced by the authorities that the restroom buildings are temporarily closed, but that portable toilets are currently available in the day-use area.

It is now unable to provide an estimate on the amount of time that will be required for the Cape Arago Highway to be restored and reopened.

Because the landslide is situated between Sunset Bay and Shore Acres state parks, the authorities have predicted that it would be shut down for a “prolonged time.”
