Florida (DDN) – According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, a Florida man allegedly hit and killed his 8-month-old child with his automobile after leaving the youngster in the middle of an intersection and driving away following an altercation with his girlfriend.
The man continued driving, but authorities soon apprehended him and arrested him. Paramedics transported the baby to the hospital, where physicians pronounced him dead. Justin Golden, 20, now faces aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide charges.
The incident took place at Lenox and McDuff avenues about 11 a.m. on Saturday. A witness told Jacksonville’s CW station WJXT that the situation was chaotic.
Markin Barnes told the newspaper that he was in his barbershop when he heard a woman screaming. He ran outside and was faced with a terrifying scene.
“The kid was bleeding,” he explained. “So we immediately asked did she needed help.”
As a father himself, he found it difficult to see.
“It’s going to be prayers and thoughts for the family,” Barnes told reporters. “It’s rough you know, dealing with kids and young, it’s going to be a traumatic situation.”
Because a probable cause arrest document was not immediately available, key information remain unknown to the public.
For example, it is uncertain if Golden ran over the youngster accidentally or on deliberately. The gender of the infant has also not been revealed. According to a video from WJXT, the area is a popular travel route. Police are still conducting an investigation.
“We, along with our partners at the State Attorney’s Office, will stop at nothing to get justice for the baby,” the sheriff’s office said.
Golden is still being held without bond in the Duval County jail. It’s unknown whether he’s hired an attorney.
