A Florida man has been charged in a fatal stabbing that took place at a Nashville bus stop early Friday morning. Roy Lomax Gardner, 42, is accused of killing Jamesha L. Jackson, 38, of Nashville, in an unprovoked attack as they both prepared to board a bus. TheTennesseanreports surveillance footage captured the assault which occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m. at the junction of Harding Place and Antioch Pike.

The scene turned from a routine morning wait into chaos when Gardner, without warning, began to savagely attack Jackson. The WeGo bus driver, witnessing the attack, promptly dialed 911. A crowd of onlookers intervened, subduing Gardner and holding him until police officers could quickly arrive on the scene. “He is being guarded by police and will be taken to jail and booked on the criminal homicide charge upon his release from the hospital,” MNPD stated. Gardner’s injuries were treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where Jackson was also taken but unfortunately succumbed to her wounds, asWSMVconfirms.
While Gardner’s motive remains unclear, his criminal record spans across multiple states, including Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. Police have yet to determine when he arrived in Nashville. Gardner’s identification card issued in April 2024 lists an address in North Fort Myers, Florida. Following the incident, community members have raised concerns about safety on public transit, with Nicole LaFever, a regular at the bus stop, asserting, “It s sad,” in an interview withWSMV. “A lot of bad things happen in Nashville, but I guess you don’t think that it would happen so close to home.”
Nashville Mayor Freddie O Connell, addressing the tragic event, has pledged to deploy more safety measures in the vicinity. “It will mean both more technology and more personnel all focused on safety,” O Connell said, in remarks obtained byWSMV. He expressed hope that the recently passed Transit Improvement Plan and the new Southeast Police Precinct, slated to open next fall, will reduce the potential for such violent occurrences.
