A Florida woman was detained on Sunday after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend’s dog many times, later admitting authorities she “made a mistake,” according to law enforcement officials.
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office reported that Megan Lynn Mileskiewicz, 23, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and resisting arrest.
According to the sheriff’s office, at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, deputies responded to a 911 call from a witness who stated that a lady was repeatedly stabbing her boyfriend’s dog inside the home.
Mileskiewicz was not inside the Spring Hill home when deputies arrived, but witnesses reported that she ran out the backdoor.
Following a quick search, officers discovered Mileskiewicz cowering behind a tool shed in the backyard, face down on the ground and surrounded by plants.
Deputies reportedly asked the suspect to crawl out of the bushes, but she refused and was eventually pulled from her hiding location and taken into custody.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that the dog, a 2-year-old pit bull, had two lacerations near his backside that measured 2 to 3 inches long. The deputies stated that neither injury was life-threatening, but the wounds continued to bleed.
One witness informed deputies that Mileskiewicz became angry with the dog and armed herself with a pocketknife before attempting to stab it.
After allegedly watching Mileskiewicz repeatedly stabbing the dog, the witness called 911. The sheriff’s office also stated that Mileskiewicz was read her Miranda rights before telling investigators the dog was “bothering” her.
She also allegedly told investigators that she got irritated and “made a mistake.”
According to court documents, Mileskiewicz was detained for animal abuse and resisting arrest without violence.
She was transferred to Hernando County Detention Center, where her bond was set at $3,500.
