Former Avon Teacher Kayvon Emtiaz Arrested on Child Exploitation Charges

Authorities in the Avon region have detained a former theater and choir teacher on suspicion of child exploitation. Kayvon Emtiaz, 28, is presently being detained at the Marion County Jail after his alleged misbehavior was made public.According to WTHR, a video that appeared to show Emtiaz acting inappropriately in a school environment raised awareness of the issue.

Police found materials, including sexual images and videos sent between a guy and a 13-year-old girl, as described in an explicit Snapchat conversation linked to Emtiaz’s device, following an investigation that was started in response to a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Emtiaz allegedly admitted to the accusations during an interrogation last Thursday, stating that he thought the girls involved were young, as stated to the police.

From November 2019 to December 2022, Emtiaz worked for the Avon school system, holding positions at White Oak Elementary, Avon Intermediate School West, and Avon Middle School North, among other establishments.According to FOX59, prior to this occurrence, he had no accusations against him in Indiana, and his teaching license had expired in August 2024.

The Avon Community School Corporation verified that Emtiaz will be immediately removed from all extracurricular activities, including theater and chorus, in the wake of the arrest. “We are unaware of any allegations connecting these charges and Avon students,” said Kevin Carr, the Communications Coordinator for Avon Schools, in an email obtained by FOX59. He also stated that Emtiaz’s access to all school facilities had been terminated. It was also mentioned that he stopped participating in extracurricular activities at Avon Community Schools as soon as he was arrested.

Since Emtiaz is still in police custody, no mugshot or bond details have been made public, and online court records do not yet show an initial hearing. The Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School, where Emtiaz received an emergency educator permit, has been contacted further about the matter but has not yet replied to demands for comment.
