Former Golden Corral Engulfed in Flames on Indianapolis’ East Side, No Injuries Reported

Earlier today, several Indianapolis Fire Department units were called to the scene of a fire that broke out inside a long-abandoned former Golden Corral restaurant on the city’s far east side. According to FOX59, the fire, which started at 4:10 a.m. in the 10,000 block of E. Washington St., was so intense that smoke and flames were streaming from the building’s roof.

According to an old Facebook post, footage taken at the abandoned site, which has been abandoned for four years, showed the building heavily burned by the fire. IFD officials have confirmed that, fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident, a claim that has been supported by both WRTV and WTHR.

Even though the origin of the fire is still being investigated, theories regarding what might have started the fire at this once-popular restaurant located close to the Washington Square mall are now as baseless as the building itself. A social media post from the defunct eatery claims that it hasn’t seen the commotion of patrons in about four years.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established by authorities, and no injuries have been recorded. The restaurant closed at least as early as 2021, according to Google Maps data, which adds to the story and makes this gastronomic husk all the more desolate in the pre-dawn fire that WRTV reported.
