(CBS DETROIT) Following a police investigation that started with a public tip, a former probationary officer in Michigan faces six felony counts.
Alexander Stachura, 38, is accused with three counts of possessing child sexual abuse materials and three counts of using a computer to conduct a crime, according to court documents.
Following a public tip, Michigan State Police began their investigation into Stachura. After examining his home, authorities claim to have found digital evidence.
The bond for Stachura, who was arraigned on Wednesday, is $20,000.
According to Chief of Police Rick Grillo, the 38-year-old was fired on Tuesday after learning that charges had been brought against him. He had been a probationary officer with the Meridian Township Police Department.
“We acknowledge that a resolution is unlikely to be found fast, even though we respect the criminal justice system and the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty. The probationary officer is unable to reasonably perform his duties while the criminal justice process is ongoing, which puts a strain on our department’s workers as they cover for him,” Grillo said in a statement.
On October 29, the Michigan State Police informed the Meridian Township Police Department about the Stachura investigation.
On Tuesday morning, a probable cause conference is planned.
