A former high school teacher from Washington County has been sentenced to a staggering 33 years of imprisonment after admittedly catfishing students and sharing their explicit images online. Michael Allen Dendy, 33, leveraged social media to manipulate minors into sending him objectionable material, an act that has since been severely reprimanded by the law. In the aftermath of his plea of guilt to one count of distribution and one count of production of child pornography on July 30, Dendy now faces 400 months behind bars with no possibility of parole in the federal system. Deputies traced the activity back to Dendy’s residence, leading to his arrest on Jan. 20, 2023. The court heard that Dendy admitted to deceiving students using fake Instagram accounts to solicit nude photos, never meeting any of the minors in person.
