Drivers in Fort Collins, consider yourselves warned. The grace period for speedsters in AVIS corridors is officially ending. Starting November 25, the Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) will begin to issue citations to those caught by the Automated Vehicle Identification System (AVIS) speeding at 10 mph or more above the limit. As reported by the
City of Fort Collins
, “Traffic Laws Photo Enforced” signs have been prominently displayed at both the start and end of AVIS corridors, as well as at the intersections with red-light cameras, to alert drivers of the enforcement areas.
While the main AVIS corridors saw a 30-day warning period expiring on November 24, an additional warning period is in place specifically for the intersection at College Avenue and Drake Road. Starting November 11, and lasting for 30 days, those pushing past the speed limit by more than 10 mph at this location can expect to only receive a courtesy warning notice, with no further action needed from the vehicle’s registered owner. FCPS has indicated, however, that once this period concludes, offenses will be met with tickets rather than warnings.
For motorists seeking to better understand the implications of this enforcement, FCPS has directed the community to research the relevant legislation and codes, namely SB 23-200, SB24-195, C.R.S 42-4-110.5, F.C.T.C 615, and F.C.T.C 1106. Furthermore, for any inquiries, they’ve provided the direct line to the FCPS Camera Radar Coordinator at 970-416-2236.
