The City Council has approved a $8 million investment in the third phase of Columbia Renaissance Square to increase the availability of affordable housing in southeast Fort Worth. Following a vote yesterday, the council reaffirmed its support for the project, which the City of Fort Worth says will bring 100 affordable units to a neighborhood in need of rejuvenation.
The project at 2757 Moresby St. will be advanced with the authorized monies, which come from federal grants and forgiven loans. Construction is scheduled to start in February 2025. The flats are designated for people and families making between 30% and 80% of the median income in the area. Ten of these apartments will be extremely inexpensive, designated for people making 30% or less of the AMI, in an effort to serve the most economically disadvantaged.
These funding initiatives are in line with larger citywide programs that prioritize affordable housing and economic development in underprivileged areas. The City Council has the opportunity to reinvigorate the Renaissance Heights neighborhood and solve the pressing shortage of decent, reasonably priced housing for the city’s lower-income citizens at all phases of life by supporting Columbia Renaissance Square.
