Free After-School Meal Program “Kid Café” Launched in New Orleans to Nourish Youth and Support Low-Income Families

The New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) Commission has partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank to provide a free after-school meal program, called Kid Caf, for the city’s youngsters as part of an initiative that combines the fight against hunger with community support. The program, which is intended for those 18 years of age and below, aims to provide wholesome meals to children from low-income families during the school year. According to the City of New Orleans, the program, which is also in partnership with No Kid Hungry and Share Our Strength, is about more than just feeding; it’s about building a sustainable future one dish at a time.

Cut-Off, Desire/Florida, and Gernon Brown Recreation locations are just a few of the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission locations that offer this crucial service every weekday from 3 to 6 p.m. These facilities give local youngsters a place to develop and flourish in addition to providing food. According to the City of New Orleans, a complete list of participating centers is available to families on the website of the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission.

“This free meal program is a crucial part of our commitment to ensuring that every young person in New Orleans has the nourishment they need to succeed,” said Larry Barabino, Jr., CEO of the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission, according to the City of New Orleans. Barabino’s remarks, which were shared in a statement with the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission, highlight the significance the commission places on removing barriers to child welfare and bolstering the prospects for a healthy future.
