Free electric Gest carts come to downtown Detroit
New transportation is coming to downtown Detroit next month and it’s free.
Starting April 1, the day of the Detroit Tigers’ Home Opener, downtown Detroit visitors and residents can hop on an electric Gest golf cart and drive to a destination in downtown, Corktown, Midtown, or Eastern Market. A Gest cart is free to use courtesy of the advertisers.
The cars, which travel at a speed of 40 km / h, can be broadcast using a mobile app similar to the Uber or Lyft apps. They will be common in concentrated areas related to sports and entertainment. Two weatherproof carts will have to be launched, with plans to expand and hire more drivers.
Gest – which stands for Green Easy Safe Transportation – has already been introduced in Cincinnati and Chicago. It is licensed on site by the Detroit-born couple Damon and Kaia Dickens.
“Despite the growing growth of entertainment options in the city, there was no way to get around for free,” Damon Dickens said in a media warning about the Detroit launch. “We wanted to solve this problem and at the same time give sponsors small and large companies the opportunity to make their brand more visible. With Gest Carts we make our dream come true. ”
Gest carts run in downtown Detroit from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 1. Thereafter, the opening times are from Thursday to Sunday from 5pm to 11pm.
