Freedom, Pennsylvania Man Sentenced to Over 6 Years for Sexual Exploitation of Minor

After being found guilty of obtaining material that demonstrated the sexual exploitation of a juvenile, a 66-year-old man from Freedom, Pennsylvania, was given a term of just over six years in federal prison. Following his incarceration, Mark Kriss will also serve a 10-year sentence of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.

The penalty was handed out Friday by Chief United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak and involves Kriss registering as a sex offender under Pennsylvania law and paying $3,000 in restitution to the juvenile victim, whose photos he received on May 22, 2021. The 14-year-old child was shown in the pictures in explicit sexual settings. Kriss had contacted the youngster via an adult dating website and acknowledged meeting the minor at a nearby motel with ulterior motives that were later proven to be predatory in addition to acquiring the photos.

The case against Kriss was prosecuted by Carolyn J. Bloch, an assistant US attorney. The Northern Regional Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted the investigation that led to the conviction. The depth of Kriss’s involvement in the minor’s exploitation was exposed by their combined efforts.

The Northern Regional Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation were commended by United States Attorney Olshan for their contributions to the investigation that resulted in Kriss’s successful prosecution.
