A terrible turn of events occurred during a traffic check in Garland when a person was shot by themselves while pursuing police on foot. The incident happened off Bay Shore Drive on Monday night. A regular traffic check for infractions turned into a more serious matter when the responding officer allegedly gained probable reason to suspect the presence of drugs, according to a social media post from the Garland Police Department.
The front passenger suddenly decided to get out of the car and flee on foot while they were trying to investigate the incident, which was initially for visible traffic infractions. Moments after the offender ran away, a backup officer’s following pursuit ended in a shooting. After being discovered collapsed, the cops attempted to save the lives of the injured until the fire department officials could come. The person was pronounced dead at a local hospital after it was discovered that the gunshot was self-inflicted.
During the course of these incidents, no police officers fired their guns. In addition to the deceased’s self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, a stolen weapon was found at the scene, immediately next to him. This finding confirmed the firearm’s unlawful status as stolen from Plano, further complicating the story.
