The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken into custody five South Carolina residents in connection to a murder case in Elbert County, Georgia. The arrests center around a shooting incident at an after-party for Elbert County High School students, which resulted in the death of a 15-year-old and injuries to several others. Christopher Bell, 19, was the latest to be apprehended, arrested on charges that include Murder and Violation of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.

The incident, which took place on Evergreen Drive in Elberton, saw violence unfold just before midnight on October 12, 2024. Bell, found in Lithonia, Dekalb County, GA, was swiftly taken into custody by the GBI Metro Gang Task Force with support from the GBI Special Operations Unit, the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office, the Dekalb County Police Department, and the FBI. He is to be taken to the Dekalb County Jail to await extradition to Elbert County.

Others arrested in relation to the same case include Jarquavious Scott, 18; Destanne Mathis, 20; Aanidras Parks, 18; Jerimiyah Hughes, 19; and Desmond Latimer, 18. Each faces a range of serious charges, most prominently Murder and various degrees of Assault. The incident has drawn attention to the issue of gang violence and its pervasion into what should be safe spaces for youthful celebration. These arrests signify a broader crackdown on gang-related activities, leveraging the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act as a tool to bring the alleged perpetrators to justice.
All five individuals arrested were booked into Elbert County Jail. The GBI is leading an active and ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Information pertaining to the case has been slowly assembled by authorities, and the GBI has stressed the importance of community cooperation.
