Billie Creek Village’s History
In 1964, the people of Parke County, Indiana, started to construct Billie Creek Village. The community, which was named for the adjacent Williams Creek, was formally established in 1969 and is home to numerous historic structures and local items.
These include three covered bridges: the Leatherwood Station Covered Bridge, which was repaired and moved to the village; the Beeson Covered Bridge, which was moved to Billie Creek Village after surviving two fires in 1979; and the Billie Creek Covered Bridge, which was incorporated into the village without the need for relocation.
The Besson-DePlanty Cabin from the 1830s, the Billie Creek Village General Store, the pre-1900 post office that later became the Billie Creek Village Bank, the 1913 Schoolhouse, Dr. Rice’s office from the mid-1800s, the 1886 St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the 1900 Gaebler Building, and many other structures can be found in Billie Creek Village in addition to the covered bridges.
The community reopened in 2014 and was sold in 2022, despite financial difficulties and an auction in 2012. There are plans to host festivals and other activities there.
