Glendale Central Library Unveils New Youth Spaces with Grand Opening Event on Nov 23

There will be a Grand Opening for the newly renovated Youth Spaces at Glendale’s Central Library on November 23 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 222 East Harvard Street. The event is open to the public and looks like it will be fun for the whole family. The new areas were designed with young minds and young at heart in mind. They promise to be more than just places to find books; they will also be places to spark imaginations and help young people connect with each other.

The redesigned Children’s Space, which features Alix Soubiran’s whimsical hand-painted wallpaper, now has a variety of age-appropriate materials, a dedicated programming section, and a cozy new reading area. The Teen Space, which is for people ages 13 to 18, is a soundproof hangout where studying, socializing, and gaming can all happen at the same time. It’s a place where friendships and creativity can grow. The state-of-the-art Sound Space is another example of innovation. Anyone can use it to record anything from a personal show to music tracks, and library staff are available to help them figure out how to use the technology.

In a statement that GlendaleLAC.org got, GLAC’s Acting Director, Lessa Pelayo-Lozada, said that the Central Library’s Youth Spaces will be places “where kids and teens can spark their imaginations, explore their creativity, and feel like they belong.” A generous donation of $6.095 million from the State Budget, $5.7 million from CSL’s Building Forward grant fund, and $2.5 million from local Measure S funds recently backed up the city’s plans to improve the community. This project is now a reality and represents the biggest investment in California’s public libraries in over twenty years.

The November 23 event is more than just a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Activities, storytimes, and shows will give people a hands-on look at the library’s new features. It will be a day to explore and experience the transformative power of these educational havens for themselves. Visit GlendaleLAC.org to find out more about the event. For your comfort, the library lets you park for free at the Marketplace parking structure for three hours when you show your library card. There is also accessible parking on the east side of the building.
