A Glendale man faces charges for the special circumstance murders of a Brea couple he allegedly owed money to. Huangting Gong, accused of killing Kuanlun Wang and his wife, Jing Li, could be sentenced to life without parole or the death penalty if convicted, as reported by
ABC7
. These severe allegations arise from an incident that reportedly began over an $80,000 debt Gong owed to Wang.
Details from a
FOXLA report
suggest that after murdering the couple in October, Gong transported their bodies to different desert locations to burn them. The charges outline a calculated sequence of events, with Gong allegedly shooting Wang in the desert, attacking Li at their home with a hammer, and later driving their bodies and cars to desert areas to set them on fire.
Investigations into the disappearances began when a family member reported not hearing from Wang for several days. “Depravity does not adequately describe the callousness involved to kill a human being and then drive around in the victim’s own car with his body inside in order to carry out the rest of his plan,” Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said, in a statements obtained by
CBS News Los Angeles
. Following the murder, Gong is accused of burglarizing the victim’s home, and stealing an estimated $250,000 worth of luxury items.
The suspect was apprehended at Los Angeles International Airport on November 5 after returning from Seattle. “No one deserves the fate of being executed and then set on fire in the middle of the desert in a desperate attempt by a killer to cover up his crimes. We are committed to pursuing justice for the victims and their loved ones,” Spitzer further conveyed, as per
CBS News Los Angeles
. Gong’s arraignment is reportedly scheduled for December 2.
