The solemn occasion follows a tragic incident on the night of Nov. 6 when Dunn and his colleague, Bethany Grusing, were struck by a car while they were tending to a crash scene in Golden. A driver, reportedly named Stephen Geer and identified as an assistant professor of engineering at the Colorado School of Mines, drove into the crash scene. The collision tragically resulted in Dunn’s death and left Grusing with serious injuries, rendering her currently unable to work, according to

In the spirit of solidarity and support, the MC-1 Foundation and the Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation are extending their assistance to the fallen officer’s family and the injured. “It’s a great honor to be a part of something like this,” MC-1 Foundation President Mark Miller told FOX31’s Greg Nieto. He further added, in a sentiment captured by

, “We want to honor the family, obviously. We want to honor the city of Golden. But most especially, we want to honor Officer Dunn, by providing the best memorial service we can, and that’s what we’re gonna do, tomorrow.”
As part of the community engagement, a patrol vehicle sits outside Golden City Hall at 911 10th St., serving as a symbolic vessel for the community’s tributes, be it caring notes or other expressions of support for Dunn’s family and the Golden Police Department.
