Grand Forks, East Grand Forks Begin Storm Clean-Up After Powerful Winds Cause Tree Damage

Following a powerful storm that swept through the area early Sunday morning, the cities of Grand Forks and East Grand Forks are initiating debris clean-up efforts to help residents clear fallen branches and trees caused by the severe weather.

According to reports from the National Weather Service, the July 27 storm brought wind gusts reaching up to 73 mph, resulting in widespread damage, particularly to trees and limbs across both cities.

Clean-Up Schedules and Instructions

  • Grand Forks will begin its debris pick-up on Wednesday, July 30, continuing through August 5. The city will follow its regular street maintenance schedule for the clean-up. Residents are advised to place all fallen branches and tree debris on the berm — the strip of land between the sidewalk and the street — for collection.
  • East Grand Forks began its pick-up operations on Monday, July 28, and will continue until the clean-up is complete. Residents are also asked to place debris on the berm, ensuring sidewalks, streets, and fire hydrants remain unobstructed for public safety.

In addition to curbside collection, Grand Forks residents can also take debris to designated yard waste drop sites located throughout the city. Details on these drop sites and the full street maintenance schedule are available on the city’s official website.

Officials encourage residents to act quickly and follow instructions to help streamline recovery efforts and restore normalcy in affected neighborhoods.
