A sequence of events unfolded last week in downtown Grand Rapids resulting in one death and a suspect charged with murder. According to a
WOODTV
report, Michael Rose, 60, stands accused of fatally stabbing Lavonia Parham, 54, along S. Division Avenue. The assault took place on the morning last Wednesday. Grand Rapids Police Department Chief Eric Winstrom has referred to the case as stemming from a domestic situation.

When Rose was found by responding officers, he was on top of Parham. He collapsed when they pulled him off. Both were subsequently provided medical aid, but Parham did not survive.
Rose, who was known to be on parole at the time following a conviction for arson in November 2021, is facing charges of open murder and carrying a concealed weapon as a fourth-time habitual offender.
