Guilty Pleas Entered by Suspects in Phoenix Murder Cover-Up, Family Seeks Justice

Two suspects in the 2023 murder of Phoenix man Jake Kelly have pleaded guilty to obstructing the investigation. Cory Young and Shannon Higgins, who were roommates of the victim, admitted to hindering law enforcement after Kelly’s death. Young’s plea deal was finalized this week, with sentencing scheduled for January, while Higgins is still waiting for her sentencing.

According to

FOX 10 Phoenix

, Kelly was discovered brutally beaten in his driveway in August 2023 and succumbed to his devastating injuries after a harrowing period of deterioration. His mother, Jan Turner, shared in a

FOX 10

interview that her son faced severe, disfiguring trauma and multiple surgeries, leading her to eventually make an impossible decision regarding his care. Turner is now resolutely working to ensure a substantial prison sentence for those involved.

The case has gained more attention as it’s revealed that Kelly’s roommates delayed seeking medical help after his assault. Court records show they waited several hours before getting him care. Additionally, Cory Young admitted to hiding important information about a key suspect, Angel Mullooly, which has made him a focus of the investigation, according to

12 News.

“I know that he was having a lot of problems to do with how he was being treated, and I talked to him the weekend before, and he said he was going to have a new place to live within the next week,” Turner told

FOX 10

. She painfully recalls their last conversation and the future her son never lived to see. The third suspect, Angel Mullooly, still awaits his trial, set for December.
