Hartford Wrong-way Crash Leaves Vernon Woman Dead, East Hartford Driver Injured

HARTFORD, CT (DDN) – A 23-year-old Vernon woman died in a head-on, wrong-way incident in Hartford late Thursday night.

Kelly Lynn Caldwell, 23, of Morrison Street in Vernon, died in a head-on collision on Route 5/15 in Hartford at 11:13 p.m. on Thursday, according to Connecticut State Police.

According to police, Caldwell was going the wrong way down the highway at the time of the crash.

According to a state police accident report released Friday morning, a 31-year-old East Hartford woman was driving a 2020 Infiniti south on Route 5/15 near Exit 90.

That’s when police said the 2011 Honda Civic, driven by Caldwell on the wrong side of the highway “for an unknown reason,” collided with the Infiniti head-on.

Police said the East Hartford woman was taken to Hartford Hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

According to authorities, Caldwell sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Hartford Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
