Tomorrow, the Hawai i Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DLIR) will open a new Unemployment Insurance (UI) Call Center. On December 19, a simplified online inquiry form will be launched. Through more effective and user-friendly access to the UI program, these enhancements seek to immediately improve service for the people of the state.
DLIR Director Jade T. Butay informed the Office of the Governor, “The improvements will help the public obtain information and support through improved navigation and language access.” The DLIR also intends to eventually replace the legacy application on their mainframe with a more modern platform as part of their ongoing improvement efforts. The call center will have dedicated lines for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), overpayment benefits, fraud and identity theft, employer services, and standard unemployment claims. With a guided menu, callers will now be able to find the right service more quickly.
In addition to providing options in English, the recently redesigned call center will expand its reach by adding dedicated lines in Cantonese, Ilocano, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese. This extension, which provides direct menu selections and interpreter services for other languages as needed, highlights Hawaii’s dedication to cultural diversity and accessibility.
Additionally, a new web form that will be accessible in Ilocano, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Chuukese, Marshallese, and English has been created to streamline and simplify email requests. When asked about the department’s goals, UI Administrator Anne Perreira-Eustaquio said, “Our goal is to make the unemployment insurance system and processes as clear and easy to navigate as possible.” According to her, the modifications are a part of the Office of the Governor’s “ongoing strategy and commitment to providing equitable access to services for Hawai i residents.”
Additionally, the Statewide UI Call Center’s contact information was provided. Locals can reach the service by calling 808-762-5752 or toll-free at 1-833-901-2272. Soon, the web form will be available on the official DLIR website. In order to better meet the needs of claimants, DLIR reaffirms its commitment to providing free language assistance services, such as interpreter services and translated papers.
