Head-on Collision on Route 31 Sends Two Drivers to Hospital, Including Airlifted Victim

RARITAN TWP, NJ  (DDN) – A driver was flown to Capital Health Regional Medical Center on Tuesday after being involved in a two-car accident on Route 31, according to Raritan Township Police.

Raritan police were dispatched to the 361 Route 31 area at about 11:53 a.m. Tuesday in response to a complaint of a motor vehicle crash involving entrapment. Officers assisted the drivers of the two vehicles involved in the collision, a Ford F-250 and a Jeep Liberty.

The Jeep’s driver, a 22-year-old woman from Washington, was trapped inside and had serious head and neck injuries. The driver of the Ford, a 29-year-old male from Somerville, was also stuck within the vehicle and complained of chest pain.

According to authorities, fire and rescue units extricated both drivers from their automobiles. The Ford driver was sent to Hunterdon Medical Center, while the Jeep driver was rushed to Capital Health due to the severity of her injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the Ford F-250, heading northbound, appeared to veer into the southbound lane and collide with the Jeep.

The Hunterdon County Prosecutors Office’s Fatal Accident Collision Team rushed to the scene and is investigating the Raritan Township Police Department.

The rescue squad, Readington Township Police Department, New Jersey Department of Transportation, and New Jersey State Police assisted at the scene.
