DDN – A head-on incident on M-35 in Marquette County claimed the lives of two men and injured three teens.
According to the Forsyth Township Police Department, both drivers died in the incident, which occurred at 3:45 p.m. on Friday near Froney Drive in Little Lake.
The drivers of the automobiles, a 21-year-old Negaunee man and a 37-year-old Gwinn man, were both declared dead on the scene.
The eastbound vehicle was carrying three boys, ages 14 and 15, all of whom were injured. All three were sent to UP Health System-Marquette.
Two of them were eventually transported to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. All three suffered “significant injuries”. As of 9:00 p.m. on Friday, all of the boys were classified in stable condition.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The names of the persons involved in Friday’s crash will not be released until all family members have been notified.
The following agencies assisted at the scene: Michigan State Police, MSP Crash Investigation Unit, Forsyth Township Fire & EMS, UP Health System Marquette EMS, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Marquette County Unit 131, Marquette County Central Dispatch, and Heavy Hooker Towing.
On Saturday, Gwinn Area Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Sara Croney verified that all three injured males are Gwinn High School freshmen.
