Henderson Police Department Prioritizes Pedestrian Safety in Successful Joining Forces Campaign

In an effort to enhance pedestrian safety, the Henderson Police Department wrapped up its first campaign under the 2025 Joining Forces program, a recent initiative aimed at reducing casualties on the road and encouraging safer driving practices across the city. The program, which took place from October 13 to October 31, 2024, resulted in 683 traffic stops.

With support from a substantial $179,000 in federal funding provided by the Nevada Department of Public Safety – Office of Traffic Safety, Henderson Police Officers were able to conduct these stops and issue a variety of citations, including 49 pedestrian violations and 334 citations for speeding, according to official reports from the

. Interestingly, not all stops resulted in citations, as education seems to be as significant a part of the program as enforcement itself.

The enforcement period saw a range of violations, with 140 citations issued for various traffic misdemeanors, collectively reminding drivers and pedestrians that traffic rules serve as unseen guardrails against the chaos of human error and misjudgment. The grant aims to support not only a crackdown on violators but also a broader educational campaign to foster a culture of road safety that prioritizes life and safety over haste and distraction.

Four key areas—pedestrian safety, seat belt use, speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving—are being targeted throughout the year by the program, and this exercise is but the first in a series of enforcement events designed to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities on Nevada’s roads. This is part of Nevada’s ongoing commitment to ensuring safer passages for both drivers and pedestrians navigating the thoroughfares of progress and daily life.
