Method to Find The Best Pittsburgh, PA Neighborhoods
In order to determine the best neighborhoods in Pittsburgh, we needed to establish the criteria that define what makes a neighborhood the “best”. We then applied Saturday Night Science to evaluate the neighborhoods based on these criteria. We used data from the FBI crime, Census, and extrapolated BLS to determine the following criteria:
- High incomes
- Low unemployment rates
- Low crime
- High home prices
- High population densities (A proxy for things to do)
We assigned scores from 1 to 80 to each neighborhood in each category, with 1 being the highest score. Afterwards, we calculated the average rankings for each neighborhood in order to create a best neighborhood index. And lastly, we awarded the neighborhood with the lowest best neighborhood index as the “Best City Neighborhood In Pittsburgh.” We are talking about you, Squirrel Hill North.
