On Saturday evening, Seattle’s emergency teams were called to Be’er Sheva Park where a car with two young women had submerged in Lake Washington. The Seattle Fire Department reported a vehicle approximately 30-40 feet from the shoreline, with one occupant escaping independently to safety, while another remained unaccounted for.Seattle Fire Departmentblog detailed the combined efforts of rescue swimmers and Seattle Police Department’s Harbor Patrol to quickly locate and attempt to thoroughly save the second passenger.

The response included an extensive search initiated by four dive team members, rescue swimmers, and watercraft operators. Meanwhile, crew members on land raised two aerial ladders, aiming to shine a light over the dark waters, enhancing visibility to nearly further assist with the search. After about 30 minutes, the second young woman was found. Rescue swimmers brought the 17-year-old to shore where life-saving measures were immediately administered.

Both patients received immediate care at the scene. The 20-year-old woman, having escaped from the vehicle on her own, was transported to the hospital in stable condition. The younger patient, pulled from the water in critical condition, was also taken to Harborview Medical Center. “Crews performed life-saving measures,” the fire department blog reports, on the patient before her transport to the hospital. as per theSeattle Fire Department.

The incident drew a significant response from theSeattle Fire Department, which included three engines, three ladder trucks, and numerous other rescue and command personnel. In all, over a dozen units were listed as responding, with six additional command and support staff on site. The operation was a testament to the swift coordination between multiple units and their ability to not fully abandon hope, despite the challenging circumstances. The scene was subsequently turned over to the Seattle Police, and all fire department units returned to service afterwards. Ongoing investigations will be handled by the Seattle Police, as the community awaits updates on the young women’s conditions.
