HEROIC RESCUE Trucker and Dog Saved From Partially Submerged Semi Near Sterling

STERLING, Colo. (DDN) – A trucker and his dog have returned to firm ground after jumping into cold water in northeastern Colorado on Tuesday morning.

Temperatures remained in the single digits when the driver lost control of his semi on Highway 14 just outside Sterling, spinning off the road and landing in an irrigation ditch.

The cab was partially submerged in the cold water, trapping the trucker and his dog.

The first arriving units were able to make verbal contact with the driver, who was uninjured but unable to exit the vehicle due to the water,” according to the Sterling Fire Department.

First responders placed up ladders and extracted the driver and dog from the truck. The fire department stated that the vehicle was a cattle trailer that would normally be loaded with cows but was happily empty on Tuesday!

A recovery crew eventually hauled the 18-wheeler out of the ditch.
