LAKE CO., Illi. (DDN) – After a high-speed chase, two people were arrested for allegedly resisting arrest and fighting with cops in north suburban Lake County early Saturday morning.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office charged the two suspects with various offenses.
Around 2 a.m., a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy observed an automobile driving without headlights near Washington Street and Lancer Lane in Grayslake.
The deputy attempted to stop the car, but the driver, later identified as Swayne Carranza, 38, of Round Lake Beach, raced to 80 mph in a 45-mph zone, authorities said.
The deputy apprehended the suspect car as it pulled into a driveway on the 1100 block of Cambridge Drive in Grayslake.
After the automobile was stopped, police said Carranza stepped out in a “aggressive manner” and refused to follow the deputy’s instructions. When deputies attempted to arrest Carranza, he allegedly struggled and pulled away.
A deputy used a Taser to sedate Carranza and take him into custody.

As deputies attempted to arrest him, the car’s passenger, Maria Lara, 32, of Grayslake, came out and attempted to intervene. She allegedly kicked one of the deputies while resisting arrest. Deputies were able to subdue and arrest her.
Carranza faced charges of resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, aggravated speeding, and multiple traffic infractions. Lara was charged with aggravated violence on a peace officer, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, and openly transporting alcohol.
Carranza was processed and released from Lake County Jail.
Lara was detained in jail pending her first court appearance.
