High-Speed Crash in Los Angeles Leaves Tamale Vendor, Two Others Hospitalized

LOS ANGELES, Cali. (DDN) – A street vendor selling tamales was one of three persons taken to the hospital after a violent crash in Los Angeles’ Koreatown on Monday morning.

According to early information provided by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel, the incident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. at the junction of Western Avenue and 3rd Street.

Two automobiles seemed to T-bone each other before colliding with a pedestrian.

“It looks like two vehicles collided, and during the collision, they hit somebody on the sidewalk,” LAFD Public Information Officer Cpt. Adam VanGerpen told KTLA. “They were struck as a tamale server sitting on the sidewalk.”

The other sufferers comprised two adults and a minor; all but one were transferred to a hospital, according to Cpt. Van Gerpen, and their specific statuses were not immediately known, although they were not considered critical.

According to Cpt. Van Gerpen, the two vehicles involved, a black Chevy Volt and a red Kia Stinger, wound up rather far apart on different sides of the roadway, indicating that speed may have played a role in the incident.

“It looks like speed was definitely a factor…there are a lot of skid marks,” he said. “People need to just slow down, especially since this happened just before six in the morning.”

The junction of Western and Third is expected to be closed for several hours while the collision is investigated.
