DETROIT, Mich. (DDN) – A 16-year-old motorist died Thursday night on Ford Road in Dearborn Heights following what seemed to be a drag racing incident in Michigan.
Ahmed Haidar, acting chief of the Dearborn Heights Police Department, described the facts surrounding the fatality Friday.
Authorities did not divulge the teen’s name. The acting chief’s statement requested compassion and respect for the family.
“It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the unfortunate death of one of our youngsters, a cherished part of the Dearborn and Dearborn Heights communities, who was engaged in a horrific accident last night. “Our hearts go out to their family, friends, and everyone who has been affected by this heartbreaking loss,” Haidar said. “Allah Yerhamo – may God have mercy upon his soul.”
The adolescent was driving westbound on Ford Road just east of Telegraph Road at 11 p.m. Thursday when he lost control and collided with a building, according to a police report. The inquiry is ongoing, but according to the article, excessive speed and possibly drag racing are probable contributing factors to the disaster.

The Dearborn Police Department and Michigan State Police were among the first responders to aid Dearborn Heights with the investigation.
In response to the fatality, police reported the following:
“We encourage all parents to have open, honest, and ongoing discussions with their children about the dangers and repercussions of reckless or distracted driving, speeding, and the significance of wearing seatbelts at all times. Consider setting explicit standards, such as restricting nighttime driving and never using a cell phone while driving.
