High-Speed Police Chase in Winnetka Ends in Tragic Multi-Vehicle Crash, Leaving One Dead and Several Injured

One innocent woman was killed and multiple others were injured in a terrible multi-vehicle incident that resulted from a high-speed police pursuit in Winnetka on Saturday afternoon. A guy driving what has been described as a stolen Mercedes was involved in a pursuit that led to the incident, which happened at approximately 1:30 p.m. close to the intersection of Mason Avenue and Saticoy Street, ABC7 reports.

Following reports of the stolen car, the LAPD got involved in the pursuit, and officers eventually found and pursued the culprit. The suspect was driving south on Mason Avenue in what was described as a white SUV with cold plates, according to NBC Los Angeles. He struck a Tesla traveling west on Saticoy Street, killing the driver, a woman in her 40s, and ending the fruitless attempt to elude the police. The victim’s name wasn’t made public right away since the next of kin needed to be notified.

The debris was shown by witnesses at the scene in a somber manner, highlighting the horrific loss that occurred in an instant. “What I witnessed is beyond words. It was depressing,” a witness told ABC7. The male suspect, who is in his early 40s, was apprehended by officials on the spot after he allegedly tried to escape on foot after the collision.

According to CBS Los Angeles, the Tesla was hit and then spun into two other cars, injuring more people but not as badly as the person who died. The drivers of the affected vehicles were sent to the hospital with minor injuries. The overturned Mercedes and the Tesla were hidden by a white canopy at the investigation’s center, according to aerial imagery from SkyCal.
