Highway 24 Crash Involving State Trooper and Toyota Prius Under Major Crash Team Investigation

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo (DDN) – According to the Colorado State Patrol, a trooper was engaged in a crash while transporting a person in custody.

On Sunday, westbound Highway 24 was closed at Newt Drive due to a crash.

According to the State Patrol, the crash occurred at 4:48 p.m. when the trooper was taking someone in custody who had been detained on a warrant at a previous traffic check. The incident also reportedly featured a Toyota Prius, which troopers stated had only one occupant.

They stated that the trooper, who has not yet been recognized, was brought to the hospital as a precaution. The trooper’s passenger was sent to the hospital by ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries, according to troopers.

According to CSP, the Prius’ driver refused to be transported.

The crash is being investigated.

“All possible causes of this crash are still being investigated,” the Colorado State Patrol said in a release.

According to them, the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Crash Team is investigating the crash.
