Hiker Critically Injured After Falling From Lookout Mountain, Phoenix Fire Department Mounts Rescue

On Lookout Mountain near Phoenix, a hiker apparently fell from a significant height of between 50 and 75 feet and suffered grave injuries. The Phoenix Fire Department and Scottsdale crews arrived to the scene of the incident, which happened at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the unnamed man, who is believed to be in his 30s, was discovered “unconscious and not breathing” after the fall and needed to be taken off the mountain immediately for medical treatment. Although it is currently unknown if the hiker was a local or an outside visitor, Technical Rescue Teams were sent in to help with the rescue effort.

According to Phoenix Fire Department Captain Todd Keller, who gave details to 12 News, “This is not our every day mountain rescue.” Before rescue crews found the hiker, bystanders had apparently heard his cries for assistance.

Keller advised hikers to always wear suitable footwear and to stay on designated trails in light of the rescue. Additionally, he suggested that people never hike alone and that, for safety, they should always hike with a companion. Using their official Twitter account, the Phoenix Fire Department provided updates on the rescue effort.

More information is anticipated to be made public as officials continue their investigation into the specific circumstances that led to the man’s serious injuries. The full degree of the hiker’s condition is yet unknown, however he is currently undergoing care at a nearby hospital.
