Houston Man Recovers from Shooting as Ex-Girlfriend Is Released on Bond and Family Voices Concern Over Judicial System

A Houston man, who authorities say was shot repeatedly by his then-girlfriend, is now recovering from his traumatic ordeal while living in fear as she has been released on bond. Elvis Mu oz, who spoke toKHOU, recounted the harrowing experience of being taken to watch the sunset before being shot multiple times, an assault that left him with severe injuries to his chest, intestines, and hands.

Mu oz, a former mechanic, described how the confrontation escalated in a wooded area near 288 and Airport Boulevard. Mu oz shared withABC13, “When I (saw) her with the gun…I literally couldn’t believe it,” continuing to detail how he was shot until the gun was empty. Despite undergoing multiple surgeries, Mu oz now faces a new challenge his alleged assailant, Alexys Pinto, has had her bond dramatically reduced from $75,000 to $10,000, enabling her to walk free.

The emotional toll on Mu oz and his family has been significant. “You’re willing to take care of someone and love them so much for three years and for them to pay you with bullets, try to take your life,” Mu oz toldKHOU. His sister, Ana Fernandez, has expressed her dismay over the legal proceedings, telling, “I am furious that the system is not doing their part. Because someone stated she has mental illness.” She vocalizes their collective fear as Pinto’s next court appearance looms in January, and she remains out on bond with conditions, including an ankle monitor.

Mu oz’s sister is adamant about the injustice they feel regarding Pinto’s release on bond. “I have no peace in life right now,” Fernandez said in a statement obtained byABC13, articulating a sentiment of frustration with the criminal justice system. As Pinto faces charges of aggravated assault, the victims’ concerns spotlight the ongoing conversation about bond practices and the protection of survivors of violent crimes. Pinto must abide by strict bond conditions, such as staying away from Mu oz and his family as part of her release terms.
