HOUSTON, Tex. (DDN) – Authorities are searching for two suspects following the tragic incident involving a rideshare driver who was reportedly robbed, murdered, and carjacked late Wednesday night on the south side of Houston. The victim’s vehicle was later discovered abandoned in a ditch just a short distance away.
At approximately 2 a.m., authorities in Houston reported that a witness alerted them to the discovery of a man in his late 20s, employed by Lyft, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly taken to a hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
According to accounts from witnesses, the Lyft driver, whose identity remains unknown, was forcibly removed from his vehicle, robbed, and shot multiple times by two assailants. The suspects fled with his vehicle, which was later discovered abandoned in a ditch at a dead-end on Goforth Street, close to Dreyfus — only a few blocks from where the driver was left in a critical state.

Detective Alexander Vinogradov from the HPD Homicide unit reported that officers have responded to this location before for comparable carjackings and are actively pursuing their investigation to identify the individuals responsible for the man’s death.
Authorities have verified that this marks the third incident of a rideshare driver being carjacked in the same area within a two-week span.
Authorities are seeking assistance from the public as they lack sufficient information about the individuals involved. They urge any witnesses or neighbors with surveillance footage from the area to reach out by contacting the police or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
