Houston Woman’s Range Rover Explodes After Malfunction; Owner Unaware of Known Recall

HOUSTON, Tex. (DDN) – Selda Johnson-Nauls was running a regular errand when the dashboard of her Range Rover started to malfunction while she was driving on the highway.

She was compelled to stop at Meyerland Plaza Shopping Center. A short time later, her car caught fire.

“I started exiting off the freeway as slow as I could. It wasn’t going any faster. I moved that car to Meyerland Plaza and got out of the car,” she said.

Shortly after, as she rushed to a nearby store, her Range Rover experienced a significant explosion.

The fire persisted, leaving the vehicle as nothing more than a burnt pile of metal. Authorities, including police and firefighters, reached the location and inquired about the car’s make and model. She didn’t know that her 2019 Range Rover had a recall due to engine and coolant problems.

“No i did not know. My granddaughter pulled it up and when she pulled it up, we saw so many that had caught on fire, full blown explosion, I was in shock,” she said.

Nauls remains without a vehicle and shared her worries about the importance of taking recalls seriously if you are aware of one affecting your car. She also emphasized the need to thoroughly research a vehicle before making a purchase.

“I could’ve lost my life…I almost lost my life in that car,” she said.
