, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash after receiving an OnStar notification around 8:21 p.m.

John Duiven, the driver of the vehicle, was the sole occupant of a 2023 Chevy Colorado pickup truck, which failed to successfully navigate a curve on Fountain Road east of Larson Road and subsequently struck a tree. Fountain Area Fire & Rescue, along with Life EMS, were present to assist the deputies, as reported by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident occurred in Sheridan Township, approximately 15 miles northeast of Ludington. As revealed by

, the evidence suggests that the eastbound vehicle left the roadway, and traveled through a ditch before making impact with a tree.

Mr. Duiven was trapped inside his vehicle and, despite the rapid response of emergency crews to the scene, he was pronounced dead. The

remarked that investigators currently believe that the failed attempt to properly execute the turn was a key factor leading to the tragic incident.

The Sheriff’s Office has yet to provide a complete report as the investigation into the exact cause of the crash continues. Locals are being reminded to approach rural driving with added caution, particularly when navigating curves on less traveled roads.
