Authorities are conducting an in-depth investigation following the eerie discovery of a human skull and additional bones at a Rancho Palos Verdes beach on Saturday. A passerby made the unsettling find around 3 p.m. by the waterline at Rat Beach, located in the 300 block of Paseo Del Mar, and notified the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department (PVEPD),noted a statementon the department’s Facebook page.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officers and detectives proceeded to carefully scour the area, uncovering further skeletal remains. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner was summoned to accurately assess the situation. “They confirmed they were human and recovered the remains,” according to a statement made by the PVEPD and obtained byCBS News Los Angeles. As of now, there is scant information concerning the age or gender of the deceased, and the cause of death remains to be determined.
