Husband of Woman Killed in Seminole County Carjacking Indicted on Federal Money Laundering Charge

With her husband, Miguel Aguasvivas-Lizardo, currently facing federal charges, the story of the carjacking in Seminole County that killed Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvivas takes a complicated turn. According to a ClickOrlando article, Miguel has been charged with conspiring to commit money laundering. The charge comes after Katherine was carjacked in Osceola County in April and later discovered dead.

The case includes large sums connected to illegal drug trafficking and has garnered national interest since security footage of the terrifying carjacking went viral. Investigators claim Katherine flew from South Florida to Central Florida in order to obtain $170,000 connected to the drug trafficking, according to FOX 35 Orlando. Prosecutors contend that her trip was a component of a larger scheme involving currency exchange for drug groups, a risky industry in which her husband allegedly had a major involvement.

U.S. Attorney Roger Handberg described the dangers of the drug trafficking industry in a statement obtained by FOX 35 Orlando. He said, “Anytime anyone is involved in drug trafficking, whether distributing drugs themselves or involved in money, what I’ve seen from over two decades as a federal prosecutor is violence often goes hand in hand.” According to the indictment, Aguasvivas-Lizardo and others would pick up cash in Orlando and bring it back to South Florida, where it would be turned into cryptocurrency and sent to narcotics organizations.

Miguel Aguasvivas-Lizardo, the fifth individual indicted in relation to this tragic event, faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in jail if convicted of the allegations.

As of right now, Aguasvivas-Lizardo and four other suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the Katherine murder case. In an effort to bring justice to the horrific crimes resulting from drug trafficking and its many murky corners, federal agents are still working to piece together the specifics of this case.
