I-35 Accident Near Hewitt Involving Three Semi-trucks Results in Death of Jennifer James

HEWITT, Texas (DDN) – The Texas Department of Public Safety identified Jennifer James, 39, of Lorena, as the individual who died at the site of a fire crash involving three semi-trucks and six passenger vehicles on I-35.

The incident near Hewitt was projected to cause major traffic delays until at least 6:00 p.m. on January 15.

According to DPS, officials responded to the crash near mile marker 326 on I-35 at about 6:00 a.m.

Authorities reported that as traffic paused for a road crew on I-35, a truck tractor-semitrailer lost control of its speed and struck vehicles in and surrounding its path.

The fiery incident included three truck tractor semi-trailers and six passenger vehicles.

James was pronounced dead at the spot, and the six other people involved were sent to Baylor Scott and White in Waco.

KWTX has established that James previously lost her husband Vinnie James in a car accident in May 2023.

According to DPS, all northbound traffic is now being redirected to the service road at exit 328 (Sun Valley Blvd/Spring Valley Road), with traffic delays predicted until 6:00 p.m. on January 15.
