DILLON COUNTY, S.C (DDN) – On Wednesday morning, an officer from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources was injured when their car was struck by a box truck as they were assisting a driver in the median of Interstate 95 near Dillon.
According to DNR spokesman Stephen Fastenau, the officer was taken to the hospital but is expected to recover completely. The crash did not cause any injuries to anyone else.
He told drivers to be especially careful when driving because the roads were covered in snow and ice.
Fastenau sent an email to News13 that read, “As a reminder, please avoid travel in areas from the Midlands to the coast that have been severely impacted.”
“Make sure to leave room for emergency responders, road crews, and snowplows if you have to drive.” “Reduce your speed, keep a safe distance, and exercise extreme caution.”
There was no further information available at that time. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is looking into the accident.
