Iconic Mosswood Meltdown Festival Returns to Oakland with Devo, Osees, Kreayshawn and Eccentric Host John Waters

The iconic Mosswood Meltdown Festival, formerly known as Burger Boogaloo, will return to the Bay Area next summer, bringing a hefty dose of nostalgia and fresh beats. Mosswood Meltdown will set up camp at Oakland s Mosswood Park on July 19 and 20, 2025, for what promises to be a whirlwind weekend of raucous music and countercultural camaraderie.

In a teaser that is as eclectic as it is electric, Mosswood Meltdown announced via social media a lineup including the legendary new wave band Devo, known for their unmistakable energy dome hats and 1980s hit Whip It. As noted by anInstagram post from @mosswood_meltdown_i_love_you, the energy is set to be high with other notable acts like the raw garage rock band Osees and Oakland s own viral sensation Kreayshawn, whose iconic “Gucci Gucci” track took the internet by storm in the 2010s. The extravagantly eccentric filmmaker, John Waters will return as the host for his eleventh year, assuring an unforgettable experience.

According to a report fromSFGATE, Devo last graced the festival stage in 2018 and is poised to join My Chemical Romance for their upcoming tour. The announcement of the Mosswood Meltdown’s return and Devo’s inclusion signals a jubilant reunion for fans who remember their “final tour” performance in San Francisco s Golden Gate Theatre in November 2023.

Tickets have officially been released for sale, and if previous years are anything to go by, they won’t stick around for long. Pricing starts at $119 for a two-day pass, an offer that many would agree is a steal for such a lineup. “I think that this group rebels against rules of any kind. Especially just as much from the regular world as it does from the liberal world,” John Waters toldSFGATEin a 2022 interview. “So they re having fun with it and punk rockers always did. They always challenged whatever the rules were, but they had fun with it and they loved what they made. Even if they hated something, they did it with humor.”
