After being accused of filming sexual interactions while in uniform while on duty without consent, an IMPD officer is facing numerous charges. According to FOX59, Officer Shane Decker, a 25-year veteran of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, was charged with Marion County court on eight charges, including unlawful proposition, official misconduct, and felony voyeurism.
When a fellow officer found a USB stick with the recordings in a department vehicle, they handed it over to the Special Investigations Unit because of the potentially illegal content they had found. The videos seemed to have been filmed without the women’s knowledge, which prompted the subsequent investigation that resulted in Decker’s charges, according to details from WTHR.
Decker should have been familiar with human trafficking training because of his work in undercover investigations, but it seems that he used this knowledge to identify which massage parlors would provide him with sexual services. Additional examination of Decker’s phone showed searches for massage parlors that provided sexual services, which is consistent with WTHR.
“He thinks women are pretty much worthless,” one of the ladies who participated in the tapes told investigators in an interview that WTHR was able to get, describing Decker’s degrading attitude toward women. He also made mocking remarks about the department’s female coworkers.
“The allegations uncovered in this investigation represent a clear violation of public trust and are completely unacceptable,” said IMPD Chief Chris Bailey in a statement described by Wish-TV. He also expressed his sympathies to the victims and praised their courage for coming forward, which resulted in Decker’s suspension with a proposal for termination.
According to his lawyer, Officer Decker is anticipated to turn himself in today.
